US Judge censors WikiLeaks.org by ordering DNS records disabled

advertisement

After an United States District Court in California ordered a permanent injunction against international whistle-blower website WikiLeaks.org, the site has gone offline. In an ominous precedent, on behalf of Julius Baer Bank & Trust in an ongoing petition against the wiki, Judge Jeffrey White ordered WikiLeaks' registrar lock and disable WikiLeaks' Domain Name records, disable its Whois privacy shield, and produce for the court all pertinent domain registration and administrative records.

Conceived to let government and corporate whistle-blowers post documents anonymously on illegal and unethical activities, WikiLeak became the target of legal attack after hosting documents pertaining to illegal money-laundering by the Cayman Island bank.
